Kindness week
Dear Families,
In March we will be emphasizing Kindness as our core quality. These next few weeks we will be talking a lot about being Bucket Fillers. We know that this time of year can be especially long and we want to encourage positive behavior and a sense of excitement in our school.
Bucket Filling is an easy to understand concept: Everyone carries an invisible bucket that holds our good thoughts and feelings. When our buckets are full, we feel happy and when our buckets are empty, we feel sad. Children quickly understand that they can fill buckets when they do and say kind things, are considerate, caring, and respectful. They also learn that when they are mean, bully others, are inconsiderate, uncaring, or disrespectful, they dip into buckets and remove those good feelings. Even the youngest child understands that actions and words can either fill a bucket or dip into it.
Paraeducator Appreciation Week March 9-13

Wednesday, March 18 - Collins Spirit Day! Wear Collins gear or Collins colors (blue and yellow)

Project Excel
It’s Time to Refer 3rd and 4th Grade Students for the 2020-2021 Highly Capable Student Program!
Do you have a student who…
- learns easily and quickly?
- thinks up unusual ways to solve hard problems?
- has a clever sense of humor?
- dislikes doing the same thing over and over?
- thinks logically and wants things to make sense?
- is open to new ideas?
- is persistent and wants to keep trying with difficult tasks?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, please refer your student to test for the Highly Capable Student Program. Please complete a Project Excel Program Referral packet online (https://bit.ly/2RRmKGb) by 4:00pm, March 13th. Testing materials are ordered the next day and late registrations may not be able to be accommodated. Please be aware that students who live within the district boundaries will receive first consideration. Out-of-district students who attend Franklin Pierce schools must be granted another year’s release and will be placed in the program after all qualifying in-district students have been served. If you have any questions, please contact Annette Burnett by phone at (253) 298-3062 or by email at aburnett@fpschools.org.

Washington State PTA Recognizes Collins PTA with Silver Membership Growth Award
Collins PTA has recently been recognized by Washington State PTA as a Silver Membership Growth Award recipient! PTAs are presented with this award for enrolling members equaling at least 105% of their previous year’s total membership. That means our PTA is growing! Thank you to everyone who has become a member so far this year: YOU are the reason our PTA achieved this award! If you haven’t yet signed up for a 2019-2020 PTA membership, please consider joining today! By doing so, you are demonstrating your support for our PTA and all it does for Collins Elementary.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Town Hall meeting on February 27th! It was great to see pictures of our new school from the beginning of construction to now. It was also awesome to see the mock ups of the school grounds, which are still available for viewing next to the library. Thank you to Superintendent Goodpaster, Joel Zylstra, and Robin Heinrichs from Franklin Pierce School District for being at the meeting to answer everyone's questions. Thank you Dr. Mondloch for explaining what a school improvement plan is and answering questions about that. We have such a supportive community!
