Fall, 2017

Dear Collins Families,

Welcome to the new school year! Over the summer our staff has been attending professional development and preparing so that we can make this a spectacular year for our Coyotes. Every member of the Collins staff works diligently to bring our mission of “creating connected, capable, contributing citizens who achieve their highest potential every day” to life. We want every student to enjoy school, learn rigorous content and know they are an important member of our community who helps to make our school great. We thank you for partnering with us to support your children in their learning; it is an honor to serve them and watch them grow each year!

I am so proud of the growth our Collins Coyotes made last year, with the support of our dedicated and caring staff members and families. Check out our scores on the OSPI website www.k12.wa.us. You can find a great deal of information about Collins and all the schools in our state in the School Report Card section of that website. Our school cheer captures the essence of what we saw last year:

Collins Coyote

 Achievers and believers

Join the pack!

We believe in ourselves

We believe in each other

We believe in doing our best!

Seeing students work hard and achieve rigorous goals has been inspiring. For example, our kindergarten, first and second-grade students have also demonstrated excellent growth in reading, writing, math and other areas. On the Smarter Balanced State Assessments, our fifth graders exceeded the district averages, and our 3rd and 4th graders significantly outperformed the district and were near or above state averages on the Math and English Language Arts. Our choir and marimba band performed exceptionally well this year. These are just a few examples of students’ successes for which we are proud.

Our 4 BEs are Collins’ guidelines for success: Be safe. Be respectful. Be Responsible. Be cooperative. We teach these to our students and practice them every day.

We are going to host a Back-To-School night on September 14th at 6:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to get to know teachers and support staff, tour classrooms, learn about procedures, programs, PTA, family opportunities and plans for our new school scheduled to open in the fall of 2019. We hope to see you there!

Thank you for sharing your child(ren) with us. Your input is important to us. Don’t hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance or if you have any questions.
